Background
For 24 years, the community of Danchira has relied on river water for drinking and other purposes, sharing these water sources with animals. While a few residents could afford sachet water, most faced financial strain and health risks.
Project Initiation
Despite numerous appeals to governments and development partners, the community remained without access to clean water until the intervention of Madam Peggy Naa Ayikailey Adamafio, Founder of Relief and Aid International.
Implementation
Madam Peggy personally funded the construction of two hydropowered boreholes to serve the Danchira community. The boreholes were commissioned on July 30th, 2022, bringing immense joy to the residents.
Community Impact
The project was celebrated by the community, with speeches from key figures including Mr. Ishmael Aryeetey, former Accra Mayor, and Greater Accra Regional Minister, who encouraged proper maintenance. The current Accra Mayor, Madam Elizabeth K. T. Sackey, expressed gratitude and called on others to support similar initiatives.
